We Have The High Ground

Set in a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars began its epic story in 1977 with the release of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. “Old Ben” Kenobi (portrayed by Alec Guinness) fills the role of the mentor to Luke Skywalker (portrayed by Mark Hamill), who discovers a secret message recorded by Princess Leia Organa (portrayed by Carrie Fisher).

His character was further explored in the Star Wars Prequels trilogy, beginning with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). Ewan Mcgregor plays a young Obi-Wan and is the apprentice to Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson). The next film in the trilogy was released in 2002 and is set ten years later after The Phantom Menace. Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of The Clones shows Obi-Wan as a respected Jedi Knight and the master of Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), who are both fighting against the Separatist Droid Army. Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith (released in 2005) is the conclusion of the epic Prequels trilogy, which shows the end of the Clone Wars and Anakin’s path to the dark side.

The animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008) explores the intergalactic warfare between the Separatist Army and the Clone Army. The long-running TV series follows existing Star Wars characters, such as Obi-Wan, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda, Mace Windu, Count Dooku, and General Grevious, while also introducing new ones, including the fan-favorite Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano and clone trooper Captain Rex.

The gap between the two iconic trilogies was explored in his self-titled Disney+ TV series, which is set years after the dramatic events of Revenge of the Sith. The eponymous character faced the corruption of his friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side and became Darth Vader. Kenobi is one of the few Jedi left and has been charged with protecting Luke Skywalker, the son of Anakin. Of course, he doesn’t hide forever and is unwittingly drawn into conflict, revealing his position to the Galactic Empire.
