Created by writer Jacqueline Schaeffer, WandaVision debuted on the Disney+ streaming service in early 2021. Revolving around MCU characters Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch (portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (portrayed by Paul Bettany), it is the first television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) produced by Marvel Studios, taking place after the events of the film Avengers: Endgame (2019).
It also stars Debra Jo Rupp (Mrs. Heart), Fred Melamed (Mr. Hart), Kathryn Hahn (Agnes), Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau), Randall Park (Jimmy Woo), Evan Peters (Pietro Maximoff), Emma Caulfield (Dottie Jones), and Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis).
Audiences follow Wanda and Vision as they live in a small suburban town called Westview. Their surroundings begin to move through different decades as they encounter various television tropes. The series was able to blend the style of a classic sitcom with the grittiness of the Marvel Cinematic Universe throughout the first season, leaving audiences baffled but still wanting more.
Over the course of the series, we get to see the show alter through different eras in the idyllic town. As their surroundings change, characters within the series question what is reality and what isn’t.
Marvel has also been able to produce a variety of other popular miniseries on Disney+: Loki, Moon Knight, What If...?, Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.
Scarlet Witch
The Scarlet Witch (aka Wanda Maximoff) began her story in the Marvel Comics, with her first appearance being in 1964 in the X-Men #4.
Created by Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, she is first portrayed as a reluctant villain in the comics and is a founding member of the Brotherhood of Mutants (a team devoted to mutant superiority over human superiority). Wanda eventually joined the Avengers and became a recurring superhero team member.
After studying the Darkhold, Wanda learned the dark side of magic to become the Scarlet Witch, allowing her to become more powerful and formidable.
