When Is House Of The Dragon Set?

Three long years since the end of the mighty series Game of Thrones, fans are able to escape back to George RR Martin’s fantasy world once again with the epic prequel series House of the Dragon. Set two hundred years prior to the events in the flagship series Game Of Thrones, the show is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood (released in 2018), following the Targaryen family during the Dance of the Dragons – a civil war between House Targaryen for the Iron Throne.

What Is House Of The Dragon About?

The highly anticipated prequel tells the story of the Targaryen family; a narrative that focuses on a civil war between the rulers of the Seven Kingdoms (Targaryens). The series will show the events that led to the end of the Targaryen dynasty and the outlaw status of Daenerys two centuries later.

King Viserys, a king chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, believes his daughter Rhaenyra should be his successor, whereas his second wife Alicent Hightower, wants to see their son Aegon II Targaryen on the Iron Throne. Throughout this narrative, we will see the backstabbing and civil war slowly unfold.

Just like the TV adaptation of Game of Thrones, the prequel series is based on the second half of Fire & Blood.

Who Is The House Of The Dragons Cast?

The eclectic cast features a crop of both famous and up-and-coming British acting talent that help bring the fantastical story to life: Paddy Considine (portraying King Viserys Targaryen), Matt Smith (portraying Prince Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (portraying Lady Alicent Hightower), Rhys Ifans (Ser Otto Hightower), Emma D’Arcy (portraying princess Rhaenyra Targaryen), Milly Alcock (portraying Rhaenyra), and Steve Toussaint (portraying Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Sea Snake”).
