Shazam (also known as Captain Marvel) is a superhero existing in the DC Universe. Created by Nill Parker and C.C. Beck in 1939, he made his first appearance in Whiz Comics #2 (published by Fawcett Comics). He joined DC Comics in 1991 after they acquired the rights to the character.
He is the alter ego of Billy Batson, a young boy who can transform himself into a costumed superhero with superhuman strength, speed, flight, and many more abilities.
His immense popularity made him one of the most popular superheroes of the 1940s. It wasn’t until 2019 when DC Comics finally brought the character to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in his self-titled film. The cast stars Zachery Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy Freeman, Andy Brody as Super Hero Freddy, Dijimon Hounsou as Wizard, and Cooper Andrews as Victor Vasquez.
