The Merc With A Mouth

Created by writer Fabian Niceza and Rob Liefield, Deadpool was written to be one of the main supervillains to the X-Force. Wade has extraordinary mutant abilities that make him such an iconic character in the Marvel franchise, including the likes of immortality, super strength, super stamina, super agility, teleportation, accelerated healing, the master of martial arts, and more.

What makes Wade such a unique character is the fact that he is very aware of being in a comic book and commonly breaks the fourth wall, making him such a humorous addition to the Marvel line-up. Since the comic book Deadpool Vol. 1, he often speaks directly to the audience and has told other characters that their lives exist in a comic book, playing with the perception of our reality.

He appears in various comic book series throughout his many years In Marvel Comics, including Captain America: Who Won’t Wield The Shield, The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly, Suicide Kings, Uncanny X-Force, Sins Of The Past, 5 Ronin, New Mutants, and X-Force — to name a few.

The character's popularity led to him appearing in X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Eventually, Ryan Reynolds would take the leading role in his self-titled film in 2016. Directed by Tim Miller, Wade Wilson is sadly struck with the horrific news of terminal cancer. He leaves his fiancé Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) without warning so she will not have to watch him die. A mysterious recruiter (Ed Skrein as Francis Freeman / Ajax) approaches Wade, offering him an experimental procedure to cure the disease. Taking a massive risk, Wilson gambles and is injected with a serum to awaken latent mutant genes. This does in fact work but unfortunately gives him torturous side effects, leaving him with a grotesquely deformed body.

Wade begins his revengeful path by hunting the men who gave him mutant abilities and a scarred physical appearance, thus becoming the antihero.

We are introduced to a variety of new characters in the film, including the likes of Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), Ajax (Ed Skrein), and Angel Dust (Gina Carano).
